Description

The consulting services (“the Services”) include the development of an integrated modeling tool that allows the exploration of different physical (e.g., climate, land use) and socioeconomic (e.g., population, economic activities, policy implementation) scenarios in the entire Amazon basin. There is a need for quantitative (modeling) tools to support the conceptualization and analysis of scenarios to visualize different regional results taking into account the economic, environmental, social and institutional dynamics, among others, of the region. The estimated timeframe for the performance of such service is 24 months and the start of services is expected for the third quarter of 2020.

Description

- Coastal zone lidar study: To provide an accurate topographic and bathymetric map and DEM of the coastal zone at the project site; to acquire high resolution aerial photography and orthorectified mosaicked imagery tiles of the project site. 2nd Quarter 2020

- Shoreline change study: To map historical shoreline positions along the coastline of the existing project site in order to classify the shoreline into geomorphic categories (e.g. eroding, stable, dynamic, accreting, etc.) to assist in decision making for integrated coastal risk management and climate change adaptation. 2nd Quarter 2020

- Sediment transport study: To provide an update baseline coastal process information that will allow them to address the risk of coastal erosion. 3 rd Quarter 2020

- Nearshore wave & current study: To provide an update of baseline coastal process information that will allow them to address the risk of coastal erosion. The two main factors contributing to coastal erosion are: on-going or accelerated coastal structure construction; and climate change impacts, specifically rising sea levels and increasingly severe operational and hurricane wave climates. 2nd Quarter 2020

- Coastal infrastructure asset inventory: To ascertain the current condition and residual life of the GOBH-owned coastal infrastructure assets – which should provide a definable baseline, against which future performance or deterioration can be measured. 3 rd Quarter 2020

-Environmental & social baseline studies: To establish an historical and current overview of the environmental features of the project site, inclusive of terrestrial, coastal and marine habitats and other parameters that can impact ecosystem health (e.g. salinity, sea temperatures); and Provide the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) with an update on the socioeconomic landscape of Junkanoo Beach-Long Wharf and surrounding neighborhoods, and the current and potential impact the project will have on them. 2nd Quarter 2020

- Engineering designs: To develop final engineering designs for Nassau Harbour east breakwater repair/ rehabilitation and Junkanoo Beach-Long Wharf shoreline stabilization. 4 th Quarter 2021

Description

The consulting services (“the Services”) include development of land use/planning coastal scenarios for a site in each PPCR pilot country and the use of said scenarios in the delivery of 3 training workshops to build the human resource capacity in each pilot country. It is anticipated that the assignment will be implemented over 9 months beginning in May 2020.

More specifically, the consultant will use LIDAR, multi-spectral, aerial imagery and other available information from external Components and stakeholders to develop the following for one highly vulnerable coastal area (e.g. protected area, marine park or fish sanctuary) in each country: land cover/use classification maps; benthic classification maps; socio-economic impact assessment and mapping. The outputs noted should then be used to develop ‘Best-Case’, ‘As-Is’ and ‘Worst-Case’ scenario maps with changing coastal utilisation for: Coastal land cover/use classes; Benthic classes, and; socio-economic activities/benefits (specifically the interplay between changing coastal/marine uses and cover with the quantity and quality of the provision of goods, values and services)

The consultancy should provide stakeholders with the ability to set-up, coastal scenarios under varying climate change/variability, use and development options by training them to create, edit, update and manipulate input data and output files in the scenarios/model application/tool. Additionally, the selected consulting firm will work with local stakeholders to include where possible post-graduate students by providing assistance with technical approaches and methodologies for analysis for their future research and to serve as potential contributions to future reports and papers for publication.
